Tujague Resigns as College of the Canyons Head Football Coach

tujagueCollege of the Canyons head football coach Garett Tujague announced his resignation on Tuesday to take the offensive line assistant coaching position at Brigham Young University.

"Garett has represented College of the Canyons with the utmost integrity and helped the Cougar football program become nationally recognized,” College of the Canyons Athletic Director Chuck Lyon said. “BYU is getting an outstanding coach in Garett.”

Following stints at Chabot College and the University of Redlands, Tujague joined the Cougar football program as an offensive line coach, while also serving as an academic counselor in the athletic department. He took over the head coaching position in 2007, when former head coach and now Athletic Director Lyon moved to his current position.

Tujague spent six seasons as head coach of the COC football program and led the Cougars to a 43-25 record, which included five invitations to post-season bowl games and a conference championship in 2008. Under his leadership, Tujague produced 33 first-team all-conference players, three conference players of the year, eight all-state honorees, one all-state player of the year and five Junior College All-Americans.

Tujague, who played football for BYU from 1989 to 1991, was an all-conference offensive lineman. His squads won three Western Athletic Conference titles, while blocking for Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in recreation management.

College of the Canyons is in the process of opening a one-year position for an interim head coach.
