ACCESSIBILITY

The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center was built to accommodate patrons with accessibility requirements. Accessible seating is available in rows E and P of the Orchestra section. Ushers are available to assist patrons with accessibility requirements to the elevator for access to row E. Transfer seats may also be available, and ushers can assist with the storing of wheelchairs during the performance. Along with advance notice, it is recommended that patrons using wheelchairs be accompanied by a companion to provide assistance. Seating for up to three companion patrons is available next to the wheelchair or transfer-accessible patron seat. Depending on availability, seats for additional guests will be located as close as possible to the accessible seat location. Patrons who wish to request additional disability-related accommodations, including sign-language interpreters, should call the box office at (661) 362-5304 no later than two weeks prior to the performance date to ensure the best possible arrangements. The Black Box Theater also is designed to accommodate patrons with accessibility requirements.

TICKET OPTIONS

Tickets for those with accessible needs, subject to availability, may be purchased in multiple ways:

• Call the box office at (661) 362-5304 during business hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

• Email the box office at boxoffice@canyons.edu

• Visit the box office at the venue.

• Order online. Be sure to select the appropriate price discount for either Wheelchair (remain in wheelchair) or Transfer (wheelchair patron transfers to theater seat).

Note: Wheelchair (remain in wheelchair) and Transfer (wheelchair patron transfers to theater seat) seating is reserved exclusively for patrons with accessible needs and their companions (up to three companions per wheelchair and transfer-accessible patron). The purchase or use of accessible seating by patrons without accessible needs is strictly prohibited and may result in relocation or revoked ticket privileges without refund.

ASSISTIVE LISTENING DEVICES

The main stage of the Performing Arts Center is equipped with an infrared assistive listening system, and headsets may be used at any seat. Assistive listening devices (ALDs) amplify and clarify sound by cutting down or eliminating ambient noise. ALDs may be requested from any usher or the house manager. Please note that a photo ID or credit card is required to check out an ALD for the duration of the performance.

THE VENUE

College of the Canyons’ founders planned for the college to have three main focuses: academic transfer, technology, and the arts. A performing arts center was an integral part of the college’s plans for more than 30 years and was funded by the State of California in 1999. A partnership with the City of Santa Clarita provided an additional $2.4 million that allowed for a considerable expansion of seating. Spencer/Hoskins & Associates of Pasadena designed the building. Ground was broken in December 2001, the facility was completed in the summer of 2004, and a gala opening occurred on Oct. 15, 2004.

BLACK BOX THEATER

The Black Box Theater, located at the northwest end of the Performing Arts Center, is a unique “flexible seating” venue for new and experimental productions. Due to the nature of the theater, the exact number of seats available is often not known until close to opening night. Therefore, a limited number of seats will be placed on sale at the beginning of the season until the exact seating count has been confirmed by the technical staff. All seating in the Black Box Theater is general admission on a first-come, first-served basis. Call the box office at (661) 362-5304 for more information.

PARKING

College of the Canyons has ample parking for all events. For evening performances Monday through Friday, parking is available in lots 4, 5, 6 and 7 one hour prior to the scheduled event time; parking is available in lots 1, 2 and 3 after 7 p.m. For performances on Saturday or Sunday, parking is available in lots 1 through 7 two hours before event time and until two hours after the event ends. Campus Safety will enforce parking rules when any car is parked at red curbs, in accessible spaces without a proper permit, outside of a designated space, in front of a doorway, or in a construction site. Bus parking will be coordinated with Campus Safety and must be arranged at least three business days before the event.

MISSION

The mission of the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons is to educate, entertain and enrich our community through a diverse blend of professional, educational and community programming.

VISION

The Performing Arts Center is an enduring facility that will grow, adapt and respond to changes in the future, reflecting the evolving needs, desires and interests of the community. It will continuously pursue the goal of providing relevant, timely and current exposure to the arts, whatever form that may take.
